The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Clyde A. Farrier (ASN: 39380352), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 17 September 1943, about one mile from Altavilla, Italy. Private Farrier, a rifleman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, was in front of his own lines when the enemy opened fire. He ran back, alerted his front lines, and returned to his exposed post, under hostile rifle, mortar and 88-mm. gun fire. Private Farrier was shot in the leg, but refused medical aid and continued fighting until action was successfully terminated after daylight. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
