The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Chief Master Sergeant Carl Darnell Crenshaw, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Taichung, Taiwan, on 24 June 1970. On that date, Sergeant Crenshaw rushed into a room engulfed in flames. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Crenshaw, despite the hazard of intense heat and searing flames, unhesitatingly persevered in his humanitarian efforts until he succeeded in removing a victim trapped in the room. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Crenshaw has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
