The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Lonnie J. Crisp (ASN: 0-404801), United States Army, for gallantry in action on **** 1943, north of ***, Italy. Lieutenant Crisp, Battalion Communications Officer, Headquarters Company, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, volunteered to repair a broken telephone line to an isolated platoon, and in the accomplishment of this mission he not only traversed 400 yards of open fire-swept terrain but moved about on exposed positions to collect the necessary wire, and repair the line under close range small arms fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
