The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Jesse F. Cox (ASN: 20954947), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 6 April 1945, at ****, Germany. Private Cox, an assistant bazookaman, covering a roadblock, displayed great courage during a heavy enemy counterattack upon his position. Even though he could have withdrawn to another position, Private Cox elected to stay at his post despite the overwhelming enemy superiority. In the ensuing fight he killed twelve of the enemy at a range of less than seventy-five yards from his position before he was seriously wounded. The great courage and devotion to duty shown by Private Cox is a credit to himself and his unit and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
