Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 64 (December 13, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Harvey W. Clark (ASN: 19062478), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 16 June 1944, near ****, France. Private First Class Clark, Intelligence Section, was a member of a three man volunteer patrol which sought information behind enemy lines. After penetrating the lines, the patrol attempted to gain contact with the Division by radio. With two of his comrades remaining with the radio, Private First Class Clark went further forward to investigate an enemy roadblock. Enemy automatic fire from behind the roadblock hit Private First Class Clark in the chest and he lost consciousness immediately. Severe grenade attacks forced the other two members of the patrol to withdraw with the information gained through Private First Class Clark’s actions. He was at all times aggressive and willing to run any risk above and beyond the call of duty. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
