The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Herbert H. Brown (ASN: 35267979), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action from **** 1943 to **** 1943, about five miles from ****, Italy. Private Brown, Radio Operator and Telephone Orderly, on his own initiative moved to the forward Observation Post of the 2d Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, and there calmly and efficiently kept communications open under heavy shell fire and within 200 yards of enemy snipers. Although wounded by shell fragments, Private Brown refused to leave his post until specifically ordered to do so. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
