The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Earl Boshell (ASN: 34021645), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 3d Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 3 January 1945, near ****, Belgium. Sergeant Boshell, Squad Leader, moved forward alone and knocked out an artillery battery’s observation post. He advanced through withering enemy machine gun fire which was directed at him to within 75 yards where he fired on the observer, killing him and forcing the remaining four to withdraw. Sergeant Boshell’s resolute courage and aggression neutralized this serious threat to his company’s attack, which continued on to its objective without further casualties. Sergeant Boshell’s actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
