The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (Infantry) Frank L Barnett (ASN: 032963), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 194th Glider Infantry Regiment, 17th Airborne Division, in action against the enemy near Wesel, Germany, on 24 March 1945. Although suffering heavy casualties among his staff during the airborne invasion of Germany, Lieutenant Colonel Barnett led his battalion to their objective. Despite the absence of key personnel of his staff, he personally spearheaded attacks on enemy strongpoints under heavy enemy fire. The success of his battalion during the initial chaos of the operations was due to his tactical skill and disregard for his own safety and welfare. His untiring efforts and diligent devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
