The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Wilton A. Baker (ASN: 20342245), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 3d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, on ** September 1943, about one-half mile from *****. Under observed enemy rifle and machine gun fire Private Baker placed explosives on a bridge, demolishing it and rendering it useless to the enemy, contributing to the successful withdrawal of the Company to which he was attached. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
