The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Tony D. Augustine (ASN: 35521807), United States Army, for gallantry in action on **** 1943, about five miles from *****, Italy. Private First Class Augustine, Company A, 1st Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, did voluntarily initiate an assault on enemy positions by dashing forward alone, calling to his comrades to follow, inspiring them and setting the pace for a drive which enabled the company to accomplish its mission. The situation required acceleration of the attack. Private First Class Augustine’s timely action gave it the needed momentum to start rolling. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
