The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Frank A. Ziola, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the FIFTH U.S. Army, in action against the enemy at Mount Chiuaza, Italy, on 12 September 1943. During repeated enemy counterattacks supported by heavy mortar and artillery fire, Sergeant Ziola, an Infantry Ranger, served as a litter bearer and made repeated trips under intense enemy fire to evacuate wounded men. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
