The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Rudy Satoshi Yoshida (ASN: 30101667), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 100th Infantry Battalion, in action against the enemy on 19 October 1944 in the vicinity of Bruyeres, France. When his platoon was halted in an open area by a sudden volley of fire from enemy machine guns, machine pistols and rifles, Technical Sergeant Yoshida worked his way toward the enemy positions in the face of intense fire. Charging an enemy foxhole, he was met by a burst of fire from a machine pistol. With a quick burst from his submachine gun, he killed the enemy. Fired upon by two enemy snipers, Technical Sergeant Yoshida killed them as he advanced. Creeping up to an enemy machine gun which was harassing him, he stood up and fired upon the position, killing the gunner as well as the three remaining crew members who tried to escape. These actions enabled his platoon to move forward and take its objective without the loss of a single man. The objective secured, Technical Sergeant Yoshida organized his men in positions to repulse a strong enemy counterattack. The matchless courage and fighting spirit which characterized Technical Sergeant Yoshida’s action exemplify the finest traditions of the American Infantryman.
