Headquarters, XV Corps, General Orders No. 155 (April 26, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Delbert A. Wiegand (ASN: 35544588), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 254th Field Artillery Battalion, in action on 12 April 1945 in the vicinity of Meuden, Germany. Private Wiegand, voluntarily and with utter disregard for his own personal safety, left the shelter of his foxhole and under heavy enemy mortar fire went to the aid of a seriously wounded battery member. Despite the great danger from bursting shells, Private Wiegand and another member of the gun crew ran seventy-five yards across the open terrain to move the wounded man to safety. During his gallant act Private Wiegand was seriously injured. His outstanding heroism reflects great credit upon himself and our armed forces.
