White, Jr. (ASN: 0-1104005), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 99th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 20 January 1945, in Luxembourg. On this date, Captain White, then commanding the 99th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company, was notified that the treadway bridge at Gilsdorf, Luxembourg was under enemy artillery fire and had been damaged, realizing the tactical importance of the bridge, and the imminent danger, Captain White decided to personally reconnoiter the bridge in order to determine the necessary repairs.
