The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Glen T. Watkins (ASN: 35808404), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, *** Chemical Battalion (Motorized), XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 18 January 1945, in Luxembourg. The 2d platoon of Company B, *** Chemical Battalion (Motorized), in the vicinity of ***, Luxembourg, was subjected to a heavy barrage of enemy artillery and mortar fire which lasted for about an hour. Air bursts sprayed the gun pits with shrapnel, wounding several men. Corporal Watkins, on his own volition, left his fox hole and dashed across 100 yards of ground which was being heavily shelled at the time to give assistance to the medical aid men in treating the wounded men and then assisted in carrying the most seriously wounded men out of the danger zone. The courage and utter disregard for personal safety displayed by Corporal Watkins reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
