The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Tameji R. Tsutsui (ASN: 30101492), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy in Biffontaine, France on 22 October 1944, while assigned as guard for his machine gun squad. Upon observing an enemy sniper firing from a distant building at his comrades, Private First Class Tsutsui dashed across a clearing that was under enemy 20 millimeter fire, crept up to the enemy and surprised him into being captured. Learning that there were more of the enemy in another room, he returned with a comrade and succeeded in capturing eight more prisoners after a brief exchange of fire. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
