The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Hajime Tsuda (ASN: 30102443), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy on 14 April 1945, at Carrara, Italy. Technician Fourth Grade Tsuda rushed into a building being shelled by an 88-mm. gun to give medical attention to three critically wounded men. While he administered first aid, another shell struck the roof, showering the room with debris. Without regard for his personal safety, Technician Fourth Grade Tsuda remained with his patients and removed them to the lower floor. He administered morphine injections and gave blood plasma to one of the casualties as shells continued to fall in the immediate area. Technician Fourth Grade Tsuda’s coolness under fire and selfless devotion to duty reflect the fine traditions of the Medical Corps of the United States Army.
