Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 22 (March 19, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Lee E. Snook (ASN: 37237010), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 133d Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 8 February 1945, in Luxembourg. Private First Class Snook was serving as Engineer Crew during assault crossings of the Sauer River. After three successful trips under fire Private First Class Snook spotted a pillbox the location of which he reported for effective target fire. For several hours he remained in an exposed position providing observation for friendly fire. When relief crews were required at the river, Private First Class Snook volunteered his services and while en route was fatally wounded. His conspicuous heroism, disregard for personal safety, and supreme devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
