The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Master Sergeant Christopher Adam Nelms, United States Army, for heroism above and beyond the call of duty on 19 October 2013. Master Sergeant Nelms, with complete disregard for his own safety, rushed into a burning building to rescue Soldiers who were asleep in their quarters on Camp Marmal, in Northern Afghanistan. His actions saved the lives of two American Soldiers. Master Sergeant Nelms’ heroic effort is in keeping with the highest tradition of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the Department of Defense and the United States Army.
