Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 38 (May 17, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Guy E. Rosensteele (ASN: 33413904), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 974th Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 31 March 1945, in Germany. On this date, Technician Fourth Grade Rosensteele was on a forward reconnaissance party near Neider Mees, Germany, an enemy truck with seven German soldiers came within 200 yards of their vehicle before stopping. The Germans dismounted and took cover in a ditch by the roadside. Technician Fourth Grade Rosensteele, without regard for his own safety, jumped from the vehicle, and, with the driver of the car, kept firing his carbine and advancing upon the Germans until they finally surrendered. Technician Fourth Grade Rosensteele’s daring and utter disregard for his own personal safety reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
