The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Donald T. Renwand, United States Army, for gallantry in action against an armed enemy while serving with the 97th Signal Battalion, NINTH Army, on 26 February 1945 in Germany. During the Roer River crossing, Technician Fourth Grade Renwand was assigned the vital mission of repairing an important communication line. His truck was blown up by a land mine, wounding him and his comrades. Ignoring his own grievous wounds, Technician Fourth Grade Renwand brought his comrades to an aid station and refusing medical aid, insisted on reporting these events to his commanding officer. Technician Fourth Grade Renwand’s eminent courage, unselfishness and devotion to duty contributed substantially to the success of his unit’s mission, and his outstanding act reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
