(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (Infantry) Taylor M. Radcliffe, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as the leader of a combat patrol which spearheaded the attack on Rome, Italy, on 4 June 1944. Captain Radcliffe personally pushed forward into the city of Rome, leading a group of 18 men who accounted for 15 enemy killed, 30 wounded and eight captured. His unit recorded its entry into Rome at 2:30 p.m., 4 June 1944, at Porte Ferba, via Tuscalano. His gallant leadership and cool judgment under fire was largely responsible for the success of his unit. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
