The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Ramon J. Puig (ASN: 6836062), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Troop B, 28th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), III Corps, in action against the enemy on the night of 21 January 1945, near *****, Luxembourg. Sergeant Puig, with two assistants, while under artillery and automatic weapons fire, successfully entered a mined area to administer first aid and evacuate four seriously wounded members of his platoon. Then, following the instructions of his badly wounded platoon leader, he personally led the remainder of the platoon and seized the assigned objective, thereby assuring favorable subsequent operations. The daring example set by Sergeant Puig and his gallant leadership inspired the men of his command are were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Forces of the United States.
