Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 4 (January 13, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Raymond C. Posey (ASN: 39199764), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion, in action against an armed enemy on 23 November 1944, in France. At 0305A hours the Command Post of his organization received a direct hit from enemy long range heavy artillery. The resulting explosion and flying shrapnel heavily damaged two trucks and burst open the gasoline tanks and gas cans on the trucks and spread gasoline over the entire area. Four other vehicles in the vicinity caught fire when the gasoline ignited. Technician Fifth Grade Posey, on his own initiative, ran to the truck nearest the center of the burning area and drove out the burning ammunition truck which was loaded with 40-mm. ammunition and TNT. He again returned to the area and brought out another vehicle. The fire on these two vehicles was then quickly extinguished. Technician Fifth Grade Posey displayed cool judgment, leadership and initiative. His action and complete disregard for his own personal safety were beyond the call of duty and resulted in the saving of much valuable equipment for his organization that can be of great use in future operations. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
