The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Edward Perez (ASN: 39005607), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 29 December 1944, in Luxembourg. On this date, Battery A, *** Field Artillery Battalion was firing a mission using high explosive shell fuzed with M67, a clockwork time fuze. One of the cannoneers slipped and dropped a fuzed projectile, activating the fuze, While all personnel, except himself and the Ammunition Corporal, took cover, Sergeant Perez, without thought of his own safety and fully realizing the danger involved, unscrewed the fuze and removed it from the projectile, with the assistance of the Ammunition Corporal. The courage, disregard for personal safety, and skill under conditions of extreme danger displayed by Sergeant Perez reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
