Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 8 (January 31, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Raymond Peracciny (ASN: 32831935), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Detachment, *** Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 6 December 1944, in Germany. Private Peracciny volunteered to accompany an LVT attempting to cross the Saar River in the vicinity of Dillingen, Germany. The road to the crossing, the crossing itself, and the opposite shore were under constant machine gun fire. On approaching he opposite bank, the LVT was halted in the mud. Private Peracciny noticed two wounded infantrymen on the shore nearby and with utter disregard for personal safety he climbed over the side of the LVT and, under heavy machine gun and artillery fire, he rendered emergency medical aid to the wounded men. He then led them to shelter and the ruins of a demolished b ridge 300 yards down the river. Here, when joined by five other casualties, he rendered further aid until he could evacuate the men to the infantry aid statin in the town of Dillingen. While at the aid station he helped the Medical Officer in the care and treatment of the incoming casualties and for the two succeeding days he acted as a litter bearer in carrying wounded men back to the river where they could be evacuated to the rear. The courage and utter disregard for personal safety displayed by Private Peracciny reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
