Headquarters, III Corps, General Orders No. 16 (January 28, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Cecil W. Norman (ASN: 6381038), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Troop A, *** Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), in action at *****, Belgium, on 26 December 1944. The position of Troop A, *** Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), was attacked with an extremely heavy enemy mortar barrage and small arms fire causing more casualties than the two aid men with the troop were able to handle adequately. With complete disregard for his own safety Sergeant Norman worked fearlessly and efficiently in the supervision of rendering first aid and the evacuation of the wounded. Sergeant Norman, by his diligence and knowledge of first aid, skillfully administered under heavy fire, saved the lives of several of the more seriously wounded. The unhesitating courage, devotion to duty and complete disregard for his own safety as demonstrated by Sergeant Norman exemplify the highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
