The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade George T. Morishita (ASN: 39083340), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy on 1 and 2 November 1944 in France. Technician Fifth Grade Morishita proceeded alone under heavy enemy fire to lay a communication line to a rifle company. Though twice thrown to the ground he determinedly proceeded for a distance of 200 yards to complete his mission. The following day when a line was damaged by enemy shells he left his covered position and went forward under enemy fire to reconnoiter a route for the establishment of a new communication line. The reconnaissance completed, he set out alone and laid the line for a distance of 250 yards through an enemy mine field and while under mortar and artillery fire. Later during the day he volunteered to act as emergency litter bearer and exposed himself to enemy fire to evacuate a wounded soldier to the aid station. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
