The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Yuki Minaga (ASN: 39677663), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery C, 522d Field Artillery Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy on 29 October 1944, near Biffontaine, France. As radio operator of an artillery forward observer party, he accompanied an assault platoon during a battalion attack and seizure of an enemy-held hill. As the reserve company was moving up to strengthen the hold on the newly won high point, the enemy subjected the entire area to severe shelling which prevented further advance. Picking up the rifle of a fallen comrade and exposing himself to the murderous fire, Technician Fourth Grade Minaga proceeded to work his way up the hill and by his courageous and fighting determination in the face of extreme danger inspired his comrades to rise and follow his audacious example and to successfully defend the newly won position. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
