The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Jake C. Lennard (ASN: 34926713), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 32d Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), III Corps, in action against the enemy on 27 December 1944, at *****, Belgium. Private Lennard, a Medical Aidman attached to an advancing force, quickly and efficiently administered first aid to four wounded men despite enemy artillery, mortar, and small arms fire directed on the area. Unassisted, he successfully evacuated the wounded men individually from the exposed area, over approximately 1,000 yards of open terrain, under direct observation and continuous fire. The gallantry and courageous determination displayed by Private Lennard reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Medical Department and the Armed Forces of the United States.
