Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 22 (March 19, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Fred K. Lawson (ASN: 0-1115944), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 7 February 1945, in Luxembourg. Lieutenant Lawson’s platoon had as its mission, taking Company F, 318th Infantry Regiment across the Sauer River. Hearing the cries of a wounded man, Lieutenant Lawson immediately set out to get the man. The man had been wounded by an enemy anti-personnel mine and in getting to him, Lieutenant Lawson himself stepped on one of the same mines, killing him instantly. Lieutenant Lawson’s gallant and heroic action along with his disregard for personal safety, trying to give aid to a wounded comrade, under intense fire, reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
