Headquarters, SIXTH U.S. Army, General Orders No. 20 (March 30, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Technical Sergeant] Sadaichi Kubota (ASN: 0-1999531/30106308), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy on 6 November 1944 in the vicinity of La Houssiere, France. While on reconnaissance patrol, Lieutenant Kubota led his men in an attack on an enemy OP which resulted in four enemy killed and routed the remainder. With his observation gone the enemy was forced to discontinue his artillery and mortar barrages, thereby permitting Lieutenant Kubota’s company to advance on the ridge and to occupy its reverse slope. Lieutenant Kubota then proceeded to reconnoiter the forward slope and while so engaged was wounded in the head by an enemy sniper. Momentarily stunned, he nevertheless made his way back unassisted and although I need of immediate medical treatment, informed the company of the enemy’s troop and gun positions before being evacuated to the aid station. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
