King (ASN: 6947317), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, II Corps, in action against the enemy. On ** February 1943, at ******, Private King after volunteering to investigate enemy positions, moved under heavy enemy 20-mm. and machine gun fire to within 100 yards of the enemy lines and returned with the information he sought. On his way back, and while still under heavy fire, he aided in carrying a wounded soldier to a point where medical aid could reach him. Private King’s devotion to duty and his courage are an inspiration, and a credit to the armed forces of the United States.
