The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Kenneth R. Keith (ASN: 37183142), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 9 February 1945, in Luxembourg. During an assault crossing of the Sauer River, Sergeant Keith volunteered to evacuate a wounded man who was lying on the river bank 250 yards away. Due to intense artillery, mortar, and rocket fire it was impossible to move the man to the aid station. He was able to get him to a nearby house. As they entered the house it was hit by artillery, painfully wounding Sergeant Keith. Despite his wound he aided the other men to the cellar where he attended to him until they were evacuated. The utter disregard for personal safety displayed by Sergeant Keith reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
