The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Travis Hinds (ASN: 34500493), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Field Artillery Group, XII Corps, in action against the enemy on 24 September 1944, in France. Technician Fifth Grade Hinds distinguished himself by crawling approximately eight hundred yards under heavy enemy artillery fire across open fields to get medical aid for a wounded man. He and two of his wire crew were returning from repairing a broken communication line when the incident occurred. Volunteering to go for an ambulance at the *** Field Artillery Group Headquarters, Technician Fifth Grade Hinds left Technician Fifth Grade Blankenship with the wounded man while he crawled this distance, endangering his very life to get the necessary aid. His daring, coolness, and courage in the face of heavy fire reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
