The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Stanley V. Hilden (ASN: 0-1176668), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 25 – 26 December 1944, in Luxembourg. Lieutenant Hilden, at the risk of his life, took an exposed position, actually under heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire, in advance of Infantry Outposts and close to the targets, in order to participate in, and lead and direct artillery fire upon an enemy occupied village holding up the advance of our Infantry forces, and actually di so, with the result that our forces were thereby enabled to take the village with a minimum of losses. His actions were courageous and heroic and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
