The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Dale Arthur Morrow (ASN: US-56706458), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Sergeant Morrow distinguished himself by heroic actions on 16 September 1968, while serving as Platoon Sergeant with Company C, 4th Battalion, 23d Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. His unit was escorting a convoy on a road security mission when they came under heavy enemy fire. The lead vehicle was disabled and Sergeant Morrow’s platoon was trapped in the killing zone. The initial burst of enemy fire killed or wounded several members of his platoon. Sergeant Morrow, although severely wounded, ordered the able-bodied off the armored personnel carriers and directed them to safety. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Morrow refused medical treatment for his increasingly serious wounds, and crawled through the deadly hail of fire to help his stricken men. Disregarding pleas to return to safety, Sergeant Morrow continued in his quest, until he was fatally wounded. His valorous actions were responsible for saving several lives and the successful completion of the mission. Sergeant Morrow’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
