(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Corporal Charles E. Gipe, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving with the Fifth Army in Italy on the night of 28 April 1944 near Minturno, Italy. Corporal Gipe was with twelve combat engineers that maintained a vital Bailey Bridge under heavy enemy shelling just prior to the attack on the Gustav Line. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
