(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Glenn E. Gibson (ASN: 6895498), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 70th Tank Battalion, 9th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa, in 1943. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Glenn E. Gibson (ASN: 6895498), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 70th Tank Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Sicily, during July and August 1943. When his tank company encountered a particularly heavy artillery barrage, Sergeant Gibson proceeded in his tank a distance of three miles to a house from which he could observe the enemy. The accuracy of the information he relayed by radio from this position enable such effective fire to be placed upon the enemy as to destroy several anti-tank guns and to disperse a large enemy infantry force. Staff Sergeant Gibson’s gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
