The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Tadashi Fujishige (ASN: 30104978), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy near Biffontaine, France, on 27 October 1944, when a machine gun platoon of Company D was subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire and three of the men were wounded. In the face of the continued barrage, Private Fujishige fearlessly left his covered position and rendered first aid to the injured men. After helping them to places of safety, he saw a nearby unit being subjected to artillery fire and though the area was covered by machine gun and sniper fire he courageously worked his way to the wounded, administered first aid and after seeing that everyone had been given treatment, helped to carry the injured to safety. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
