Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 54 (June 23, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Jay Y. Frost (ASN: 20926825), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 183d Field Artillery Group, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 30 March 1945, in Germany. Technical Sergeant Frost, of his own volition and without regard for his personal safety, ran eighty yards from the protection of a covered observation post to alert a tank destroyer crew in order that they night fire on an German anti-tank gun and prime mover, which the gun crew could not see from their position. Technical Sergeant Frost remained on top of the anti-tank gun, though continually exposed to sniper fire until the enemy vehicle and gun were knocked out. His action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
