The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Philip Feldacker (ASN: 17007149), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, II Corps, in action against the enemy. On ** February 1943, at ******, Private Feldacker, while under heavy enemy fire, and therefore unable to fire his .30 caliber machine gun from the customary position, moved himself under the gun and while lying on his back succeeded in killing six of a seven-man enemy patrol advancing on his position. Private Feldacker’s gun was dismounted from its position by heavy enemy 88-mm. fire, but by quick action he managed to place it back in position and proceeded to fire on the enemy until they were forced to retreat. It was at extreme risk to his own personal safety that Private Feldacker was able to maintain the position. His action aided in holding the enemy back for a long time. Private Feldacker’s courage and devotion to duty were an inspiration to all the member of his organization and reflects credit to the command and to the military service.
