The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Frederick W. Eaton, II (ASN: 0-536939), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 945th Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 13 April 1945, in Germany. While flying an unarmed liaison plane on reconnaissance in front of an armored column, Lieutenant Eaton’s courageous devotion to duty and aggressive Action carried him 12, 000 meters into enemy territory.
