(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Donald K. Duwe (ASN: o0-463766), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with , *** Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, FIFTH U.S. Army, in action against the enemy on ** September 1943, in the vicinity of *****, Italy. From his dug-in position on the beach, Captain Duwe observedthe explosion of an enemy artillery shell aboard a small landing craft. Three soldiers were thrown into the water by the impact of the shell. Captain Duwe left his position of safety to go to the rescue of the victims. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Duwe, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
