The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George G. Drummond (ASN: 31292299), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action against the enemy on 29 September 1944, in France. Private First Class Drummond was the driver of a radio liaison vehicle used to relay information to the fire direction center. When enemy artillery shells landed close to the position, he withdrew to another location. However, radio communications with the fire direction center could not be established at this point. Despite the artillery shelling he voluntarily returned to the former location. With communications again possible, the firing data thus transmitted soon silenced the enemy fire and contributed greatly to the successful attack by our forces. The courage and devotion to duty of Private First Class Drummond reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
