The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private John Beck Flocken (MCSN: 95472), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 79th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the capture of Bouresches, France, 6 June 1918. Private Flocken was twice hit in the leg, but he dragged his automatic rifle two hundred yards forward and opened fire on an enemy machine gun, and silenced it.
