Headquarters, Far East Air Forces, General Orders No. 407 (November 10, 1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain William N. Page (AFSN: AO-1912341), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Navigator of a B-26 Invader Attack Bomber of the 3d Bombardment Group (Light), FIFTH Air Force, in aerial operations in Korea, in June 1953. Just southwest of Pyongang, Captain Page sighted a supply-laden convoy and proceeded to calmly direct the pilot through the heavy enemy flak during low-level strafing runs until two vehicles were destroyed. Later, he spotted a locomotive several miles north of Chinnampe, and during the low-level attack that followed, Captain Page saved the lives of all aboard by his alertness in directing a power line directly ahead in time for the pilot to pull off the target. Despite the heavy flak encountered, he continued to direct the pilot over the hazardous terrain so that the pilot could concentrate his entire efforts on the target. His exceptional knowledge of the flak positions as well as his extremely valuable directions and assistance to the pilot were largely responsible for the severe damage to the locomotive. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Page, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
