The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Oliver C. Farrant (MCSN: 137533), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 96th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action in the attack on Tigny, France, 19 July 1918. Sergeant Farrant led his section with remarkable coolness and courage in the advance under heavy fire of machine guns and artillery. He was severely wounded but continued to advance, thereby setting such an inspiring example to the men that they routed the enemy.
