The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Theodore L. Cox (ASN: 37500911), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 528th Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 27 March 1945, ion Germany. Staff Sergeant Cox was in charge of hauling bridging material. Under point-blank artillery fire, Staff Sergeant Cox led an infantry platoon who were pinned down under fire to shelters, personally evacuated two wounded soldiers and organized his own men directing the withdrawal of his vehicles from their exposed positions. His capable handling of this difficult situation made is possible to continue with the bridge erection after the fire had been eliminated. Staff Sergeant Cox’s courage and leadership are in accordance of the highest traditions of the military service and great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
