The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Armor) Roy J Clinton (ASN: 0-23774), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the , 106th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), XV Corps, in action against an enemy of the United States in Germany, on 28 March 1945. Major Clinton personally directed an attack by Troop B, *** Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized), 106th Cavalry Group, on a determined enemy force at OB Klein, Germany. After locating three enemy gun positions and causing effective artillery fire to be brought to bear upon them, Major Clinton went forward with the assaulting troops. He personally accounted for one German killed, the capture of five more, the destruction of one 40-mm. Flak Gun, and he directed the attack with such skill that the enemy force was eliminated without a single casualty among the men. Major Clinton’s actions in this engagement were an inspiration to his men and reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
